How to Write a Packaging Brief That Gets Great Results
The information a manufacturer needs from you to quote accurately and produce well.
The quality of your packaging brief directly shapes the quality of the finished product. Here's what to include so your supplier can quote accurately and produce well.
Product specifics
Type (bag / box / etc), exact dimensions, weight capacity, paper stock preference (kraft / coated / specialty), gsm.
Print specifics
Number of colors (Pantone codes if known), print coverage (1-color logo vs full-coverage), inside print yes/no, artwork status.
Finishing
Lamination (matte / gloss / soft-touch / none), foil (color and coverage), emboss / deboss, spot UV, handles (type and color).
Quantity and timing
Total quantity, whether split into batches, target delivery date, target market (Dubai / GCC / international).
Reference samples
If you have a physical reference (existing packaging you like, competitor's packaging), share it — it removes ambiguity faster than any written brief.
Budget signal
Sharing a rough budget helps your supplier steer you to the right spec tier. Withholding it often leads to over-spec'd quotes.
