Custom-Shape Dies: When to Invest in Bespoke Structure

December 18, 2025·5 min read

Custom die-cutting can transform a standard box into a signature. When it pays off — and when it doesn't.

A standard rectangular box works for most products. But custom die-cutting opens up shapes — hexagons, unusual proportions, structural windows, unique closures — that become part of the brand.

What a custom die costs

AED 800–2,500 for a bag die, AED 1,500–5,000 for a rigid box die, one-time. Amortize across the first run and subsequent reorders.

When custom pays off

You'll reorder the shape repeatedly (annual programs). The shape is materially part of the brand story. Your product benefits structurally from a non-standard footprint.

When it doesn't

One-off campaigns under 500 units. Products where the standard shape works fine. Situations where structural die cost outweighs standard-shape production savings.

Hybrid: standard box, custom insert

Often a standard box with a custom die-cut foam insert delivers most of the differentiation at a fraction of the die cost.

Prototyping first

Before committing to bulk, we produce hand-cut prototypes of custom-shape structures so you can hold and test before tooling the final die.
